Carn Mairg is an accessible mountain and is usually approached from Glen Lyon. Together with Carn Gorm, Meall Garbh and Meall nan Aighean it forms the Glen Lyon horseshoe and is one of the classic walks in this area of Scotland. The summit ridge of Carn Mairg is broad and has a couple of subsidiary summits, the highpoint however rises clearly above the rest of the ridge.
